  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 24 oz cream cheese
  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups unsalted butter
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 6 cups powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 1/4 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round pans.
  2. For the cake layers: Mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add milk, oil, vanilla extract, egg, and hot water; mix until combined. Divide batter between pans and bake for 30 minutes.
  3. For the cheesecake layer: Beat cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add sugar and cocoa powder; blend in sour cream and vanilla. Mix in melted chocolate chips and eggs until just combined.
  4. Pour cheesecake mixture over one cake layer in a springform pan and bake at 325°F (160°C) for about 50–60 minutes.
  5. Make the buttercream by beating softened butter with cocoa powder and powdered sugar; add heavy cream until desired consistency is reached.
  6. Assemble by placing one cake layer on a plate, topping with cheesecake layer, then another cake layer on top. Frost with buttercream and sprinkle chocolate chips.
