  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Freshly grated nutmeg, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • Paprika, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Generously butter an 8×8 inch casserole dish and spread the shredded potatoes evenly.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine milk, whipping cream, salt, dry mustard, black pepper, and nutmeg. Heat until nearly boiling.
  3. Reduce heat to low; stir in cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  4. Pour the cheese sauce over the potatoes and let cool slightly.

  6. Cover tightly with plastic wrap; refrigerate for at least 12 hours.
