  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup frying oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne powder
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 4 burger buns
  • coleslaw
  • mayonnaise
  • pickles

Instructions

  1. Prep the chicken by slicing breasts in half horizontally and seasoning them with salt and pepper.
  2. Whisk buttermilk and hot sauce in one bowl; mix flour, cornstarch, cayenne, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in another.
  3. Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour mixture, then dip it into the buttermilk mixture before returning to coat with flour again.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan to 350ºF and fry chicken until golden brown and cooked through (about 3 minutes per side).
  5. Mix hot cooking oil with brown sugar and remaining spices for the Nashville hot sauce; baste it on the fried chicken.
  6. Assemble sandwiches by spreading mayonnaise on buns, adding fried chicken, coleslaw, and pickles.
