  • 8 oz thick-cut bacon
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Soak navy beans overnight in water. Drain and boil them for an hour.
  2. In a Dutch oven, fry diced bacon until crisp. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, then stir in minced garlic.
  3. Mix in tomato sauce, molasses, brown sugar, and spices. Combine with drained beans and reserved cooking liquid.
  4. Bake covered at 325°F (160°C) for 2–3 hours. Remove the lid for the last 30 minutes to thicken the sauce.
