Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes (14.5 oz each)
  • 1 can tomato sauce (15 oz)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups cooked long grain white rice

Instructions

  1. In a Dutch oven over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add olive oil to the pot and sauté the onions and bell peppers until soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  3. Return the cooked beef to the pot along with diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Italian seasoning. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and let simmer for 15–20 minutes.
  5. If serving immediately, stir in cooked rice and parsley; simmer for another minute until heated through.
  6. Serve hot with optional cheese garnish.
